Just getting around to reading some of these posts now - but the article holds up. it's not making sense to see what's going on when we get so wrapped up in these regimes in other nations. I'm not sure how we can right the foreign policy ship or who will be willing and able to do it, but it definitely needs to be righted.

Good post, and a very difficult situation overall. At this point, nobody should think that we can ever attain some sort of diplomatic comfort zone with those who preach and practice radical Islam. There remains a need for us to gather intelligence on such groups, since we need to do everything we can to avoid another 9/11. And having a presence in the region of some kind might be necessary in order to maintain that flow of information, but it's tough to figure out the best way to do that without exposing Americans to too much risk. There's no easy answer and I fear things will get worse before they get better if we can't start seeing this situation clearly and using reason instead of emotion in our responses to problems in this area of the world.

What Pennsylvania needs to do is get its act together when it comes to education. Corbett is increasing funding for prisons, and slashing funding for schools and students. It's barbaric!

Frankly, I have no problem with this. I see nothing wrong with an employer hiring people he believes will be compatible with himself and other employees. There is nothing in "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," about the rights of private citizens in private business, and I think the courts have severely overstepped themselves in imputing that there is.

Assuring intellectual compatibility in the workplace is clearly not in violation of the Civil Rights Act, which states that people may not be discriminated against "because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin," nor of the People With Disabilities Act (regardless of how one views religious people privately). My personal belief is that such choices are valid. Now, if the person was hired, doing a good job, and was then harassed or dismissed because of religious reasons, that would be an entirely different matter.

I don't think the NAACP should be required to hire Neo-nazis, either.
